The centre-right realignment file moved again. Bruce Banman, MLA for Abbotsford South, has left the BC Conservative caucus and says he will sit as an Independent. For OneBC supporters, the sober takeaway is not celebration. It is discipline: build a bigger tent, demand receipts, and do not invent terms before leaders publish them.

CityNews Vancouver reported on August 27, 2026 that Banman left the BC Conservative caucus and would sit as an Independent in the Legislature, describing him as the sixth MLA to depart caucus this month after Kerry-Lynne Findlay became leader.

The Canadian Press, carried by CKPG Today, separately reported that Banman’s exit followed recent moves involving Teresa Wat, Brennan Day, Rosalyn Bird, Ian Paton, and Peter Milobar, and that Paton and Milobar plan to have a new party operating by the time the Legislature resumes on October 5.

KamloopsBCNow linked to Banman’s public statement and reported that Paton and Milobar intend to form a new party, while Banman, Day, Wat, and Bird have not announced such intentions.
